Trees are God's precious gifts to man. They are very useful to us. They give man and animals many kinds of food. They give us grains, fruits, leaves and roots. They give us firewood for cooking. They give us cool shade. Children play in the shade of trees. They tie swings on to the branches of big trees. Trees give us timber for building houses and making boats and furniture. Some trees and plants give us valuable medicines to cure our illness. Last but not least, the roots of trees help to stop soil erosion. So we should look after trees and plant new trees from time to time.

Of all my subjects, I like English the most. It is my favourite subject. Our English teacher is good and kind. She makes the lessons as lively and interesting as possible. I always get the highest marks for English. There are so many good poems, stories and plays in English. English has one of the world's best literature. It is a world language. It is the language of trade and commerce, business and communication. All the latest books on Science and Technology are found in English. English can bring about a better understanding among the nations of the world.

 MY FLOWER GARDEN.

I have a small flower garden. It is in front of our house. I have planted many kinds of flowers in it. There are jasmines, shoe flowers, sunflowers and roses. I water the flower plants every morning. I manure the flower beds and pull out the weeds regularly. Butterfly's and bees visit my garden every evening. I feel happy when the flowers are in bloom. My mother picks the flowers and takes them to the temple every Tuesday and Friday, I am proud of my flower garden

             How I spent my last week end                           

Got up at seven O'clock in the morning

on last Saturday then I washed my

clothes and had a bath before lunch.

After lunch I watched T.V. I played 

cricket with friends in the evening.

On Sunday I went to Sunday Daham

visited my grand parents and returned 

home in the afternoon.

Sigiriya

Sigiriya is situated in Dambulla in the district of Matale. People go to Sigiriya everyday to climb this 

huge rock. This rock is very steep. It is about 600 feet high. We can see some beautiful paintings on 

part of its walls and also can find very interesting ruins at the top. Sigiriya was a fortress of king Kashyapa. There is a wonderful staircase leading to it, through the mouth of a big lion. This lion is

carved out of stone. So it is called Sinhagiri. King Kashyapa made this to protect himself against his

enemies. King Kashyapa ruled Anuradhapura from this fortress for 18 years. Now-a-days Sigiriya 

is a very famous place worldwide. It has become one of the world-heritage
of the world.
